She was an All-SEC performer in the javelin and an Academic All-Americanin the classroom, studying Finance and Economics. She has also completed her graduate coursework in Economics at the University of Memphis.

Needless to say, athletic diversity is a familiar concept to her. It was in her collegiate training that she first started to excel and find her passion in fitness. Kinney says CrossFit has allowed her to satisfy her thrill for competition in her post-collegiate years. In March 2010, she won the CrossFit Deep South Sectional competition and knew that she had a competitive future in CrossFit. Later that year, she went on to win the South East Regional and place 10th at the CrossFit Games. In 2011, she won the Central East Regional and placed 17that the CrossFit Games. In 2012, she encountered her first true setback as aCrossFit athlete, missing the CrossFit Games by one place, finishing 4that the Central East Regional. After a strong CrossFit Open finish and a second place showing at the 2013 Central East regionals, she continued that success with an 8th place finish at the 2013 CrossFit Games. This past year, she finished 5th worldwide in the Open, 3rd at the Central East Regional and 12th at the CrossFit Games, earning her the title of the 12th Fittest Woman on Earth.

She says that she finds her inspiration in all the members at CrossFit Park Hill. Embracing her belief that “full effort is full victory,” she says, “Nothing motivates me more than the efforts and community that we all share here at CrossFit Park Hill. I am very lucky to have an opportunity to be a part of this fine group of people.”

Clayton Putman

Once I graduated from college I found myself with plenty of extra time to devote to fitness and working out, so I did what any recent graduate would do…got a 24 Hr Fitness membership and started doing bicep curls. After a year of these “workouts”, I realized my fitness level was not much better than when I began and I needed a different plan.

At that point I discovered “Fran”, a WOD that left me curled in the corner of the gym, seeing stars and hoping I didn’t pass out. From then on I was hooked on CrossFit! To me CrossFit is more than just a physical workout, it has become a way of life. Physical growth is only the beginning, CF allows people to step outside their comfort zone and learn more about themselves on a daily basis.

As I learned more about the sport, I wanted to share my experiences with others and became a coach. The past year of coaching has been extremely rewarding, it is awesome to see to see everyone grow and accomplish feats in the gym that they never thought would be possible. The community of CrossFit Park Hill is a fun, welcoming environment perfect for individuals of any skill level, come see for yourself!

Norm Reitter

Norm DLNorm played sports in high school; soccer, baseball and basketball.  Norm went to the US Naval Academy, played Judo, was in light weight crew (rowing), tried out for the baseball team (too slow and short without being recruited), and played intramural soccer and field ball (not the kind with a stick). Norm was in the Marines for 10 years, so physical training was required. During this time he coached a “Bootcamp for Women” class for two years.

After taking some time off after the USMC, becoming a fat bastard, and being disgusted with what had happened to his body Norm picked up some P90X and mixed it in with TRX.  P90X was a good transition program for him to get into CrossFit.

Norm loves the outdoors: paddling (kayak or canoe), hiking/snowshoeing, mountain biking (although not for some time), and camping.  He is sort of a technology geek – especially human-machine interface and analytics stuff.  Norm plays chess, backgammon, other board and card games, and plays the trumpet from time-to-time.

Certifications:

  • CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
  • NASM Personal Trainer
  • NASM Performance Enhancement Trainer

Donny played soccer, basketball, ran track, and powerlifted in high school.  While in college he found rugby and fell in love with the sport because it seemed to combine everything he loved about the sports that he left behind in high school.  During college he played rugby at a high level and was considered one of the top 20 collegiate 7s players in the nation in 2006 and 2007.  His pursuit of high-level rugby is what led him to CrossFit as a training modality to prepare for the rugby season.  Donny says it was a fellow rugby player that introduced him to CrossFit, and once he experienced the camaraderie of CrossFit he was hooked.

Donny is an elementary school teacher and middle school basketball coach.  He still enjoys playing basketball and rugby from time-to-time as well as outdoor activities: hiking, biking, camping, and snowboarding.  He finds inspiration in athletes of all backgrounds skill levels, and finds satisfaction in seeing his students and athletes progress and improve their skills.

Clint Banks

A Denver native, Clint Banks has always been involved in athletic endeavors.  Upon concluding his undergraduate studies and collegiate soccer career at the University of New England, Clint returned to Denver and began his journey into the business side of professional sports.  Kicking around in the local adult soccer leagues once or twice a week wasn’t sufficient in offsetting the transition to a desk job.  Heading to the gym to “lift and do some cardio” was less than enticing so there was a large void that needed to be filled.  It took a number of years to find but once Clint discovered CrossFit he was completely hooked.  After a couple of months of training, Clint IMG_6439decided that he’d like to share the great things that CrossFit had brought back into his life with others and signed up for his Level 1 Certification.  “To me CrossFit is about community, camaraderie, friendly competition and helps provide a great outlook on life.  Each day is about discovery and finding something that you didn’t know you had the ability to do”.
